This post is a room style challenge for Juliette Interiors who asked their favourite lifestyle bloggers to design a room set around one of their chaise loungue`s. I thought this would be a fun project to take part in as I am always creating moodboards for my shoots.

It took quite a long time to choose a product as there was so much choice but as soon as I saw their Walnut Italian Designer Chaise Longue, I fell in love with it straight away. There are so many things to love about it; the deep walnut grain showing the rich tones of the wood, the mid-century feel, the weaved leather back and the beautiful peachy hue of the name a few!

Having used the chaise as my starting point, the next step was to choose the paint for the walls. Whilst this isn`t exactly an accessory, it`s an integral part of the design process as the accessories will vary in appearance depending on what the back drop is. I felt the soft terracotta tones of the chaise would look stunning against a contrasting green wall.

Once these two items were in place I began my search for other pieces, quite a task as the collection is extensive. It`s always best to determine exactly what the function of the room is before you decide on small furniture and ornamental pieces. So, in my mind, the room is living room come study area. I like the idea that someone might need some office time but yet they are not shut off from the rest of the family. Hence, choosing this contemporary Italian writing desk. It was important to move away from the walnut tones and instead opt for a striking modern black finish, this helps the chaise to stand out and avoids the two pieces competing with one another.

Having chosen a black desk, I followed this theme throughout the room with the accessories and the side table. The tabletop mirrors the walnut from the chaise, just a hint though, and the simple style table legs tie in with the writing desk.

For the lighting I wanted to choose something that was striking and on trend, the contemporary Gold-Plated Suspension light was perfect. Oversized ceiling lights help to draw the eye up and act as a frame to existing room schemes. The soft and reflective gold tones compliment the warm walnut and help to balance the overall look.

Finally, I always add plants and flowers to every room I design as they bring a look to life. I think about the colour and style and use them to bring another dimension to the room.  The bold green palm leaf sits nicely against the deep tones of the wall and the pretty white flowers on the side table make a perfect highlighting colour.
